10 damn pans

Got my fancy 80 Euro pan fucked up. Was long coming I recon. I saw a spoon inside the pan which is indication that it’s lifeis coming to end soon. The pans I usually have are with some fancy non-stick coating, as was that one. I know who put the spoon into the pan but I have to pretend I don’t because it’s my sons girlfriend and we mostly treat her like she is dear guest. It means I feed her and take her places and so on together with my kids. The problem or rule with them non-stick coatings is you can’t touch it with metal. Metal being knives or forks or spoons. So one morning I found spoon inside the pan and for a moment “lost it” and yelled: oh no, why there is spoon in the pan! The moment I said it I knew who had done it but my shock seeing it after teaching my kids years about the pans and cooking and oils and cheeses and all sorts of kitchen tools and machinery I was just brutally taken aback. Not proud of it, but 80 Eur is very expensive for a pan and I aimed to have it for at least 4 if not five years. I usually succeed with that, paying attention and NEVER even touching my pans with metal. So that spoon in my pan was last autumn. And today, or factually, yesterday evening that pan gave up. It means all meat now stuck to it and no chance to fix it anymore. I mean we got the meat off with wooden spatula but I have no skills to get the burn off from the pan. I scraped it earlier twice as it burned some bacon once and I could barely get it almost clean. Kids were using it then without oil to heat up tortillas as they do for lunches when I am not home. Dry heating was OK but yesterday we had armenian shashlik and as it was heavy rain we could not grill it outside and kids put the shashlik on this pan. Which turned out to be it’s last breath. It was all black once they finished prepping it. So today on the way back from work I went to shop and picked myself my new beauty, stainless steel pan, first in my life. I’p proper Gordon Ramsey because this pan is excellent for duck breast – first heat up on pan, and then stuck it into oven together with the pan! Until now we had to change and take duck breast from pan to oven dish because all my pans had either wooden or plastic handles.

Here is the first trial: chechuan chicken yet without noodels. Pretty good that pan though it needs some trials to understand how it works best. And, it’s 2 cm smaller diameter than all my pans before (not mistake, but they only had one size of this pan) so I don’t have the lid for it. Stainless steel is not the first choice for modern chefs I suppose because that was the only stainless steel item in that shop. So anyway, got new pan, tried it for first time, pleased. That was the highlight of my day, the best bit of my day today.

The worst bit was work. In closed room with waaay too close colleagues from competitive companies and one having terrible stinking feet and to put cherry on top he was smoking the cheapest ugliest cigarettes. That breath almost took me out together with the horrid stinch from his feet. My eyes were running as he was sitting mere five centimetres away from me and I had to make a joke about me having allergies 11 months of the year. I might be perfect politician, lies just flow naturally these days.

Gotta go now, it’s early morning and workday again.
